You are cordially invited to attend a five-day CMP Teacher Leader and Coaches Workshop on the beautiful campus of Michigan State University on June 21–25. This conference is intended for professional development leaders (coaches, teacher leaders, curriculum coordinators) who are seeking ways to support a successful implementation of CMP in their districts. In particular, the workshop is intended for those who are committed to providing ongoing support for teachers who are striving for more effective engagement with the CMP curriculum. Attendees will have a chance to discuss how to design professional development opportunities in your district. The coordinators for this leadership conference will use videos and other artifacts from CMP classrooms and an accompanying teaching journal that provides suggestions for use of the videos. While these videos could be used in CMP unit training workshops, conference participants will...

¥  Look deeply at the mathematics embedded in the curriculum;

¥  Increase their understanding of mathematical connections within units in a grade level and across grade levels in CMP;

¥  Examine the teaching model and its role in developing student understanding;

¥  Understand the varying needs of teachers new to this curriculum and develop activities for meeting these needs;

¥  Develop strategies to help teachers plan, teach, assess and reflect more effectively on their teaching practice;

¥  Learn about various models for professional development and apply this knowledge to designing and reßecting on their district/institutional models; and

¥  Develop awareness of current research and theory relevant to CMP teaching and implementation.

The conference requires an application. The first 40 applicants meeting the above criteria will be accepted. Preference will be given to those who have

¥ Deep knowledge of the CMP curriculum for grades 6, 7 and 8; and

¥  Commitment from their school for long-term professional development around the CMP curriculum.

Schedule

The conference will convene at 7:30 A.M. on Monday, June 21, with check-in and a continental breakfast. Each day will begin at 8:00 A.M. with a Continental breakfast and ends at 5:00 P.M. except Wednesday, which will end around 5:30 P.M. On Wednesday there will be a carnival with CMP games, fabulous prizes, and appetizers from 4:00–5:30 P.M. Lunch, except for Friday, is on your own. The conference will adjourn at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 25.
